Best Post-Workout Recovery Drinks

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again if you aren’t recovering, you aren’t gaining.  Now then the question isn’t should I take protein but what protein should I take? There are a lot of questions circling around protein shakes, different kinds of proteins, and what the best post-workout recovery drinks are.  It’s hard to figure out what to buy with the countless amount of options out there but I am going to talk through my favorite post-workout recovery drinks for different types of people!

1. For the Heavy Gainer

Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex Weight Gainer

This is a great option for those looking to put on some weight and lean mass. With around 600 calories per serving this protein packs you with needed calories to recover from a workout and to start gaining weight. Just like the rest of Optimum Nutrition supplements, there are ample flavors that are fantastic but nothing beats classic chocolate! This should only be considered by those who are looking to put on weight and bulk up.

2. For the Vega{i}n

Vegan Series Select Protein

Gone are the days of blasting a few eggs after a lift to get the protein you need, now there are plenty of options for the animal lover. While it is hard to find a vegan, plant-based protein that has a strong offering of macronutrients, this one does a solid job. With around 20 grams of protein per scoop, this post-workout drink is tasty and will get the job done!

3. For the Budget Conscious

EAS 100% Whey Protein Powder

When you’re looking to get huge but your wallet only seems to be shrinking, EAS has a great option for you. Running you around $18, you will get 30 grams, about 7 grams of BCAA’s, and no added sugar. This is a great choice if you want a low complexity protein powder that delivers the essentials you need without anything extra. Remember, if you aren’t recovering from your workout, you are wasting your time in the gym. Even if you don’t have tons of money you can still get your essentials to gain size without breaking the bank.

4. For the Road

Core Power Elite High Protein Milkshake

This 14oz bottle will run you around $4, which is a little pricey, but it can be found at almost all convenience stores. It delivers 42 grams of protein and tastes absolutely fantastic. They aren’t kidding when they call this a milkshake. This is a great choice if you left your protein at home or on the road.

5. My Favorite

Isopure Zero/Low Carb Protein Powder

This one has to be my favorite protein powder ever. I’ve been drinking it for nearly three years now.  It runs you about $40 for a 3lb container but I have been hard-pressed to find a zero carb, zero sugar, high protein recovery drink like Isopure. It comes in great flavors and is gluten/lactose-free for those of you who have restrictions. It is 100% whey protein isolate which just tops it as a top performer for post-workout recovery.
